MA ADEP Dip Add Couns
It requires an initial 5 years psychotherapy training to be able to register with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) who are the leading organisation for the education, training, accreditation and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors in the UK.
The UKCP exist to promote and maintain high standards of practice of psychotherapy and psychotherapeutic counselling for the benefit of the public throughout the United Kingdom. The UKCP is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. The UKCP also ensure that psychotherapists continue to attend training and professional development workshops to keep skills and practice updated.
It can be confusing to work out whether you should seek help from a counsellor or psychotherapist, especially when there is often a great deal of overlap in the services being offered. The difference is usually the level of training and professional skills practice required.
Choosing a psychotherapist means that you can be assured that a nationally required minimum standard of education and training, professional skills, conduct, performance and ethics for practice has been met.
